Ezekiel Watchers     |   home                      70 weeks of Daniel Seventy weeks are determined upon they people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.  (Dan.9:24) Break Down of this verse: Period of time-70 weeks determination (thy people and upon the Holy city) Completion (end) of the following: 1. And end of sins (which has not been done) 2. Make reconciliation (Atonement) for iniquity  (Many say this has been done already) 3. And bring in everlasting righteousness 4. Seal up the vision and prophecy 5. Anoint the Most Holy Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: The street shall be built  again, and the wall, even in troubled times. 7 weeks (7 shabuwa/49 days) and 62 weeks (1 jubilee and 1 shabuwa and 5 days) add this information together 70 weeks/shabuwas = 1 jubilee/50 years and 2 shabuwa/14 years and 6 years It clearly states there are 70 weeks determined not years nor days. Now many have said that the 70 weeks are really symbolic; that in order to determine time you must multiply 7 x 70 years which is in total 490 years total. That after 62 weeks or 434 years the Messiah was crucified. And the explanation for the extra 7 years is that it has been postponed for a later time. Arguments against this interpretation: 1. In order to accept this viewpoint we would have to know when the order to rebuild the city of Jerusalem, and the sanctuary took place.  Also, the dates of the Second Temple vary:depending on what source you read.  History documenting the Second Temple period indicates there were many renovations made to it; including the complete dismantling and restoration after the Greek design by Herod the Edomite. However, there is a theory that indicates that the 70 weeks of Daniel as referring to week of years. Which would be 50 jubilees x 70 weaks of jubilees = 3500 years in all. click image
